Mr. Loberger has always had a love for both history and maps, but never believed he could make a living with either of them so he started his career in forestry. His introduction to GIS back in 1984 was strictly practical, however his interest soon turned into a life-long passion. While he works primarily in public safety applications of GIS today, his imagination still seeks application of GIS to understand and communicate history through geography.

Four years ago, Mr. Loberger made a dramatic change in his life by leaving a career at Esri to promote the use of GIS in public safety. In that time, he has gone from an EMT student to a fire department Lieutenant and become an author and editor in the EMS field. He credits his employer as well as a keen involvement with social networking for making this transition possible and allowing it to happen so quickly.
